Year 2007 Ceramic Awards go to their owners
"Ceramic Honor Awards" handed out in the awards ceremony organized by Ceramic Federation as part of UNICERA Ceramic and Bathroom Trade Fair since 2003 were awarded this year too, to those who have toiled for the industry for a long time and pioneered it in many areas. The winners of the awards presented in 6 different categories were esteemed individuals who have made contributions to the art, education and industry of ceramics. The award winners were determined by Turkish Ceramic Association, TIMDER Building Materials Suppliers Association, SERKAP Ceramic Tile Manufacturers Association, SERSA Ceramic Sanitary Ware Manufacturers Association, SERHAM Ceramic, Glass and Cement Raw Materials Manufacturers Association and Ceramics Federation. This year the honor trophies were designed by Prof. Hamiye Çolakoğlu.

At the ceremony held with extensive participation of the ceramic industry;

Ayhan Çavuşoğlu was awarded the ?Science, Art and Technology Discipline Ceramic Honor Award? given by TCA. Ayhan Çavuşoğlu, born in Balıkesir in 1950, studied in Istanbul. He is a Chemical Engineer and Manager. He started his professional life in 1977 at Emayetaş. He pursued his career at Ege Kimya, starting from 1983. During this period, he served at various levels at Ege Kimya. He served as Operations Manager in Ege Kimya?s partnership with Ferro from 1990 to 2000. In this period, he was given the Weaver Award, the most prestigious one among the achievement awards given out by Ferro Corporation among its employees in 23 countries, commemorating its founder. In 2006, he resigned from Ege Kimya where he served as Vice-President, Technical Affairs and started working as General Manager at Keskin Kimya A.Ş. Ayhan Çavuşoğlu, who served at various levels at Turkish Ceramic Association since 1992, served as Chairman of the Board of the Association from 1997 until May 2006.

?Ceramic Glass and Cement Raw Materials Discipline Ceramic Honor Award? handed our by SERHAM went to Mehmet Tuncer. Mehmet Tuncer was born in 1932 in Aydın/Çine. He started his business life with the production of olive oil and soap. In 1965, he offered the feldspar he produced under the name of silica sand to Izmir casting companies to be used in casting cores. Later, he introduced feldspar to Çanakkale Seramik factories in 1967 and to Türkiye Şişecam factories in 1968. Founding Kaltun Madencilik in 1986, he advanced his efforts for the use of feldspar and quartz. He founded Sabuncular Madencilik Company in 1991 and spearheaded the use of mica in addition to feldspar and quartz in the industry. Presently, there are 17 Kaltun Group companies. Mining, shipping, energy, agriculture, olive oil factories, animal husbandry and food sectors are among the fields of engagement of the group, including international companies in Italy, Spain, Malta and Egypt. Kaltun Madencilik has become the firm with highest exports in Aegean Mining Exporters Unions for the last four years.

?Ceramic Sanitary Ware Ceramic Honor Award? given out by SERSA went to Tahir Yalçın Çötelioğlu. Çötelioğlu, born in Izmir in 1939, finished his secondary education at Kabataş High School. After graduating from Ceramic Department of Higher School of Applied Fine Arts (presently Marmara University Fine Arts Faculty Ceramic Department), he specialized on porcelain in the province of Bavaria in Germany at Fachhochschule, Nürnberg, earning the title Dimplomingenieur (FH ? Engineer, M.Sc.). After returning to Turkey, he rose to Vice-President at Istanbul Porselen San. ve Tic. A.Ş. where he started his career. In the following years, he served as founding General Manager at SEREL Seramik San. A.Ş. and as General Manager at Kütahya Porselen and Uşak Seramik San. ve Tic. A.Ş.

Ahmet Ulukuş received ?Ceramic Tile Ceramic Honor Award? handed out by SERKAP and also ?Ceramic Industry Ceramic Honor Award? presented by Ceramic Federation. Ahmet Ulukuş was born in 1943 in the district of Hamamözü. Ulukuş, graduating from the Mechanical Engineering Department of Yıldız Technical University in June 1964, studied for his Master?s Degree on Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning in the same University. After his military service, he started working in Yarımca Ceramic Factory. Ahmet Ulukuş, who has worked in the ceramic industry without interruption since then, worked as Machine Maintenance and Operations Supervisor at Bozüyük Ceramic Factory from 1970 to 1974, Assembly Manager and General Manager at Kütahya Porselen Sanayi A.Ş. from 1974 to 1980 and Factories Manager, General Manager and Ceramic Group Head of Toprak Ceramic Group since July 1980. He is presently serving as Vice-Chairman of Executive Committee in charge of industrial companies, of Toprak Holding.

?Sales and Marketing Discipline Ceramic Honor Award? handed out by TIMDER went to Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu. Rıfat Hisarcıklıoğlu, born in Ankara in 1955, graduated from Ankara Economic and Commercial Sciences Academy ? Economics and Management Department. Hisarcıklıoğlu, who served as Chairman of the Board of Armada İnşaat ve İşletme A.Ş., Chairman of the Board of Eskihisar İnşaat Malzemeleri A.Ş., Chairman of the Board of Eskihisar Dış Ticaret A.Ş., Chairman of the Board of Eskihisar İnşaat ve Yatırım A.Ş., Chairman of the Board of Fibor A.Ş., Chairman of the Board of Kristal Şeker Sanayi A.Ş. has been serving as Turkish National Committee Chairman of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and Chairman of the Board of Exterior Economic Relations Board since 2001 and as Chairman of World Turkish Businessmen Council since 2002. He has been serving as the Chairman of Union of Turkish Chambers and Exchanges since 2001.
